Parkland Pathway Requirements for Current Students

Parkland Pathway Requirements for Current Students

Following are the requirements you must meet as a current Parkland Pathway student in order to remain in good standing in the program.

Be a full‑time student

Take 12 credit hours or more, between Parkland and Illinois combined, each fall and spring semester.

Meet with your advisors

  • Your Parkland advisor
  • Your Illinois academic community advisor

You’ll meet every semester, and your advisors will tell you when.

Complete all transfer requirements for your major

Follow the Transfer Handbook for your major.

If you drop or do not pass a required course, you may:

  • Lose good standing
  • Be put on academic warning
  • Be removed from the program after the semester review

Keep the GPA your major requires

You must stay at or above your major’s GPA requirement and show adequate progress toward your degree.

If you live in Illinois Housing…

You must register for at least one Illinois class per semester (up to five credits).

You will also automatically be assessed the Illinois Health Service Fee.

Take FYE 101 at Parkland College

Special sections are held for Parkland Pathway students.

Submit immunization records

Send your immunization information to McKinley Health Center.

Stay on top of your financial aid

If you need help paying for school, work with Parkland’s financial aid office. Illinois does not offer financial aid to Pathway students.

Pay your bills

Pay all tuition and fees to Parkland College and Illinois every semester.

Follow all student conduct policies

You must follow the rules and regulations of both Parkland College and Illinois.

Academic Standing Review

At the end of every semester, a review committee will check your:

  • Grades
  • GPA
  • Progress toward your major’s transfer requirements

After the review:

If you do not meet the requirements, you may be placed on academic warning or dropped from the program.

If you meet all requirements, you stay in good standing.

What “Successful Completion” Means

You have successfully completed the program when you have:

  • Passed all required courses
  • Met your major’s GPA requirement
  • Met with advisors as required
  • Completed any additional steps your advising team gives you

When you finish the program, you must submit the Illinois degree‑seeking transfer application and all required materials by the posted deadlines.

Parkland Pathway is meant to take two years. If you try to transfer to Illinois earlier than two years, or apply to a different major than the one you’ve been working on in the program, you will not be eligible for guaranteed admission.

Talk with Parkland and Illinois advisors to figure out the right time to apply based on your major and your progress.

Thinking About Changing Your Major?

If switching to another Pathway major:

  • Meet with advisors in the new academic community.
  • If approved, you must submit signed College Change paperwork.

If switching to a non‑Pathway major, submit Withdrawal paperwork from Parkland Pathway and work with Illinois admissions counselors on a traditional transfer plan.

Leaving the Program

You may leave the Parkland Pathway program at any time. To withdraw, submit the required paperwork with a Parkland or Illinois advisor or an Illinois admissions staff member.

Students may be removed or withdrawn if:

  • You leave the program voluntarily.
  • You apply to Illinois for degree‑seeking admission before finishing the two‑year program. This counts as withdrawing.
  • You are academically or administratively dropped.

If you are removed or withdraw from the program:

  • You will need to move out if you live in Illinois Housing.
  • You may still apply to Illinois as a transfer student.
  • Pathway benefits will end.
